Portraits of Mainers Rendering the character of a people was the occupation of August Sander, the great German portraitist of the early 20th c. His task, uncompleted in his own eyes, took his entire life. Since growing up in Bangor, I've been in awe of the variety and depth of characters in Maine. Character over fame. A fully realized person is a great achievement. These images begin a life-long pursuit.
